College life at Kangwon National University(KNU) in Korea

My College life at Kangwon National University(KNU) in Korea

My journey started in the fall semester of 2020 or other words, I will finish my degree next semester. I would like to share all my experiences and college life during studying at KNU. Even though this is a brief narration, I believe it might serve as a helpful hint for new applicants and comers. HEAT’s application preparation is first and foremost procedure for applying for a scholarship; therefore, be careful to keep the due date of the application deadline and write a thorough study plan and systemically. The second prerequisite is always to remind yourself to be confident and show your strong ambitious thought on interviewing day by thoroughly preparing important information like the fields of your interested research, the methodology to conduct that research, and if you can give the potential supervisor name is good preparation. I hope that after going through my story, you will be inspired to apply for a scholarship at KNU and create wonderful memories as I did.

KNU's facilities have been modernized, such as a unique library, modern sports center, standardized football stadium, park and leisure spot (Yeonjeokji pond), dormitory, information center, laboratory, class, hall, cafeteria… etc. We (HEAT) have a lab for self-study that our department designed for us. That room was fully equipped with fully functional and convenient facilities necessary for studying and working on our work. During the semester break, especially the Office of International Affairs (OIA) will have many activities related to building soft skills, and they genuinely care about your homesickness. The new soft skills include making cakes, Korean folk drawing, decorating stuff, and K-Pop dancing. These are most likely the activities I did not experience in my childhood. Aside from that, KNU constantly arranges a variety of city tours, cultural experience tours, and tourism famous destinations that I am sure you have never been to before. Additionally, A annual special event such as International Youth Leader Exchange Program (IYLEP), I had a chance to attend TEDx Talk competition even though our team did not win first prize, it was a great opportunity for me to do things that I had never done before, but at least I have a chance to contribute my words to this event.

Another unforgettable experience is learning how to ski and how skate the snowboard. I always dreamed of having a chance once to experience this kind of sport, but as you know, my country is in a tropical monsoon area and never drops one piece of snow. When I was young, I only enjoyed this kind of sport by playing a video game about snowboarding and skiing, and always stuck in my mind that if one day I had a chance to do it, I won’t skip or hesitate to try it. Many great ski resorts are located in Gangwon, and If you choose to study and live in Gangwon, I bet you will enjoy winter activities. Gangwondo is also a great place for outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, cycling, and so on. I enjoy living in this city.

Last but not least, I strongly recommend the program at KNU. For all newcomers, I hope you will gain successful academic life and acquires tremendously beautiful moments in life in Korea as I met. Being away from home for an extended period of time may bring homesickness and melancholy, but I guarantee you will feel time fly by when you are a part of KNU. After graduation, I do hope to become a person who possesses the spirit of “Sil-Sa-Gu-Si”, a proverb meaning “seek for the truth from reality,” as KNU’s founding spirit and the dissemination of the greatness of South Korea, especially the greatness of KNU to my community and my students.
